East 185th Street Rehabilitation and Streetscape Project 

The Project implements many of the recommendations laid out in the East 185th Street TLCI Plan, including resurfacing of East 185th Street, turning Locherie Avenue into a cul-de-sac at East 185th Street and Lakeshore Boulevard, streetscape improvements including street trees, curb bumpouts, and decorative crosswalks. Construction is expected to begin May 16th, 2022.

Euclid Avenue and Chardon Road Safety Study

The public process examines the Euclid Avenue and Chardon Road intersections and seeks to make them safer for vehicles, pedestrians, and bicyclists. The public feedback process began in March 2022 and will continue throughout the year. The recommendations are expected to be completed in Fall 2022 and are being facilitated in partnership with the Northeast Ohio Areawide Coordinating Agency. See the final adopted TLCI here.

Lakeshore Boulevard Water Main and Walkability Project

The Project will replace the water main on Lakeshore Boulevard between E 217th Street and E 228th Street. Following the water main replacement, Lakeshore Boulevard will be resurfaced between E 217th Street and E 228th Street and 5 landscaped pedestrian safety islands will be installed at various places.

Euclid Avenue Streetscape Project 

Additional streetscape improvements are underway, including pole banners and bus shelter art wraps along the corridor.  Artwork for these improvements was developed by Euclid High School Graduate, Kasey Johnson who is continuing her interests in graphic design at Kent State University. Euclid Avenue Road Resurfacing

Euclid Avenue will be resurfaced from the East-to-West across its full length, border-to-border within the City of Euclid under the guidance of the Ohio Department of Transportation. Construction is expected to conclude in late 2022.  Stay tuned for more updates, including details of traffic maintenance during construction!

Hero Park Improvements

The Hero Park Improvements project is a multi-phase project, including the installation of a new playground (completed May 2022), a 2/3-mile walking trail around the perimeter of the park (completed June 2023), site furnishings made from upcycled wind turbine parts (pending installation November 2023), landscaping, and park entrance redesign. A ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new playground was held on July 13, 2022, and an additional ceremony for the trail and other improvements will be held in 2024.

Top of the Tank

Top of the Tank is a unique proposal for an enlivened greenspace atop the location of a recently constructed 15-million-gallon, underground stormwater storage tank in the heart of Downtown Euclid.  While many engineering challenges are associated with building literally on top of such a tank, through an extensive community engagement process in 2021 a full site plan has been proposed. Fundraising is ongoing and Phase I improvements are slated for 2024.

Euclid Creek Trail Extension

Cleveland Metroparks was recently awarded funding to further plan trail connections from Euclid Creek Reservation, through the former Central Middle School Site, to Lake Erie/Wildwood Reservation at the mouth of Euclid Creek.  Stay tuned for further updates from the Metroparks, and review the proposed trail map here!

Senator Kenny Yuko Park

Senator Kenny Yuko Park Project (Waterfront Phase III) is the next phase in the Euclid Waterfront Improvement Plan, which began at Sims Park with the construction of the Joseph M. Farrell Fishing Pier (Phase I) and the construction of the award-winning ¾-mile Lakefront Trail (Phase II). The Waterfront Phase III Project, also known as Yuko Park, seeks to create a premier park, paddle craft recreation area, and lakefront beach house at the eastern end of the Lakefront Trail. Set on 5.5 acres of lakefront property at Lakeshore Boulevard and E 247th Street, Yuko Park will boast ample vehicle parking, greenspace, a multi-purpose trail connecting the Lakefront Trail with Lakeshore Boulevard, and a beach house with bar/lounge, restaurant, public restrooms, outdoor terrace, paddle craft rental and storage areas, trail maintenance facilities, and stunning views of Lake Erie. The creation of Yuko Park will begin in November 2023 with site grading, trail construction, landscaping, tree planting, and vehicle parking. The greenspace creation phase of the Yuko Park project is slated for completion in June 2024.

East 200th Streetscape Project

The East 200th Street Streetscape Project is a community-driven planning process to review and update the streetscape elements along the East 200th Street corridor. The project seeks to develop a streetscape plan ahead of sewer repairs and street resurfacing planned for 2024. Proposed streetscape elements include, but are not limited to benches, banners, bicycle racks, street art, medians/pedestrian refuges, and planters.

Community Recreation and Wellness Center

The City of Euclid seeks to develop a Community Recreation and Wellness Center focused on delivering to residents a space uniquely designed to reflect the holistic approach to wellness - physical, social, emotional, and financial.

Heritage Park Home Repair Grant Program

The Heritage Park Home Repair Grant Program is a $300,000 pilot program designed to assist owner-occupants of single- and two-family residents make repairs to the exterior of their home and property. Property owners must reside in the home (owner-occupant) and be current on their property taxes or on a payment plan with Cuyahoga County. Eligible property owners who are awarded a grant will receive up to $7,500 to assist with curbside appeal projects.

Playground Improvement Program

The Playground Improvement Program was developed in 2021 following an assessment of every City-owned playground. The City has committed to replacing all City-owned playgrounds in poor condition so that every Euclid child has access to a high-quality playground. As of Fall 2023, more than $1,000,000 has been invested in new playground equipment for Memorial Park, Willow Park, Hero Park, Tungsten Park, and Heritage Park. Additional improvements are planned for Mavec Park and/or Harmony Park in the near future.

Upland Sims Park Expansion

The Upland Sims Park Expansion Project includes 5.33 acres including 550 linear feet of scenic Lake Erie shoreline. The property is significant due to its adjacency to the transformational Euclid Waterfront Improvement Project which established unprecedented public access to the lake through new beaches and ¾ mile multi-purpose ADA-accessible trail.

Citywide Pedestrian & Bicycle Safety Action Plan 

The Citywide Pedestrian & Bicycle Safety Action Plan (also known as the Citywide Active Transportation Plan) will be a policy guide that assists in the development of equitable transportation improvements for non-vehicular transportation. It will envision a safe, comfortable, and connected transportation network that supports multi-modal trips and human-powered mobility options throughout the community. The plan will support the City’s sustainability goals by encouraging more residents to take trips to work, the grocery store, medical appointments, and visits to friends and family by foot or bike rather than by vehicle resulting in lower greenhouse gas emissions and improved air quality.

Sims Park Reimagined: Master Plan Update 

The City of Euclid, Ohio, deeply values its lakefront, recognizing it as a vital community asset and a cornerstone of its identity as "The Lakefront City." This commitment is evident in the City's efforts to enhance Kenneth J. Sims Park, a key component of the City's vision for its waterfront. Previous park improvements, such as the 250-foot fishing pier, accessible walkways, restored Henn Mansion, and disc golf course, have transformed Sims Park into a popular destination for residents and visitors. With recent public investments, like the unprecedented and award-winning Lakefront Trail and Upland Sims Park Expansion projects, and through numerous comments by residents and park visitors, the remaining park layout and infrastructure does not serve the unique and varied needs and desires of the Euclid community.
