Playground Improvement Program
Planning and Development Menu

Description
The Playground Improvement Program was developed in 2021 following an assessment every City-owned playground. The City has committed to replacing all City-owned playgrounds in poor condition so that every Euclid child has access to a high-quality playground. The program kicked off in 2021 with the replacement of the playgrounds at Memorial Park, Willow Park, and Hero Park and the Program sets the goal of replacing at least one playground each year. o As of Fall 2023, more than $1,000,000 has been invested in new playground equipment for Memorial Park, Willow Park, Hero Park, Tungsten Park, and Heritage Park. Additional improvements are planned for Mavec Park and/or Harmony Park in the near future.
Benefits
- High-quality Playgrounds. This Program seeks to ensure that all City-owned playgrounds are high-quality places for Euclid children to play and have fun regardless of where they live. The playground replacement includes using a pour-in-place base, which replaces mulch with a spongy rubber base so children have a soft surface to play on.
- Accessible Equipment. As part of the City’s commitment to access to high-quality playgrounds, the design of each playground includes accessible elements so all children can have fun together.
- Improved Quality of Life: Some neighborhood playgrounds are 20 years old or older and have reached the end of their useful life. As equipment breaks down and replacement parts are no longer made, these playgrounds are no longer assets to the neighborhood and available for children to play on. By replacing the playgrounds in poor condition, the playgrounds and parks become community assets again.
- Community Planning Opportunity: As part of the Program, Department of Planning and Development staff work with the neighborhood’s residents to identify other opportunities for improvements to the park. The
Hero Park Improvements Project is an example of a project that resulted from the replacement of the playground equipment and the community conversation that followed it.
