Shore Cultural Centre Gets “Shored Up” Thanks to Volunteers

Residents, Tenants and Local Students Volunteered Their Time to Paint and Clean Up Shore Centre

Saturday November 13th, Shore Cultural Centre hosted a “Shore Up Party” at which volunteers from the community, Shore Centre tenants, and students from Case Western Reserve University (Delta Upsilon, Humanitarian Design Corps and Engineers without Borders) all donated time to paint and refresh areas on all three floors of the historical landmark.

Volunteers grouped in the community room for assignments, and then were set out with paint supplies to freshen up several public areas: doorways, hallways, bathrooms- and spaces available for rent – all in need of some TLC to help keep them fresh for current and future building tenants.

The 108-year-old former high school, governed by a five-member board of directors and managed by Laura Kidder, currently serves as a Euclid’s center for the arts and lends spaces to a variety of unique small businesses- as well as community staples like the Euclid Hunger Center and WIC Program.

City Council President Charlene Mancuso, a current board member and huge proponent of all things Shore Centre, also volunteered her time for the event. “It is very energizing to work with groups and individuals who understand Shore is truly an asset to the City of Euclid” Mancuso said.

Lunch was graciously provided for all volunteers by board trustee Rene Fonseca- who cooked at home and then carried food to the shore center so all the volunteer workers could enjoy a hot lunch.

The Shore Centre relies on the kindness of the community to make their many valuable contributions possible. Programs and activities at Shore are supported by businesses and residents of Euclid.

“We appreciate everyone’s hard work,” said Shore Centre Manager Laura Kidder, who is forever grateful for the support of all the community volunteers. “If you have a talent, or a trade skill, we could always use your help!”.
