Residential Lock Box Program Available Now

September 9, 2024

This program will allow Fire and EMS to enter a home in the case of a medical emergency.

Beginning in September 2024, the Euclid Fire Department’s Fire Prevention Bureau will make lock boxes available to income-qualifying Euclid residents. This program will be in partnership with the City of Euclid’s Division of Community Development through the Department of Planning and Development.

Funding for this program will be made possible through CDBG-CV (CARES Act Community Development Block Grant), provided by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).

This program will allow Fire and EMS to enter a home in the case of a medical emergency without breaking down the doors of the house. The lock box will be installed within the door frame, or on the door, of a frequently used entryway for ease of access to first responders.

This program will be available to both Euclid homeowners and Euclid tenants who reside in single-, two- and three-family housing units, and apartment units. However, the following qualifications apply:

  • Participant must be a senior citizen, a resident with a physical and/or developmental disability, or a resident with a serious illness that may warrant emergency services
  • Total household income of all occupants cannot exceed 80% of area median family income, per HUD requirements
  • Rental property and/or multi-unit apartment registration must be in good standing with the City of Euclid’s Department of Building and Housing
  • If the homeowner and/or tenant relocates from their dwelling, they must contact the Euclid Fire Department to reclaim the lock box
  • It will be the household’s responsibility to ensure that the house key matches the lock of the door designated for access

For additional information or questions, please contact the Division of Community Development at (216) 289-8140.
