Euclid Joins the Great Lakes and St. Lawrence Cities Initiative

Euclid joins more than 260 local leaders working to advance communities in the Great Lakes and St. Lawrence River Basin.

The Great Lakes and St. Lawrence Cities Initiative is pleased to welcome Mayor Kirsten Holzheimer Gail and the City of Euclid, OH to its growing coalition of more than 260 mayors and top elected local leaders working to advance the socioeconomic and environmental health of communities in the Great Lakes and St. Lawrence River Basin. The City of Euclid recently wrapped up its participation in phase one of the Cities Initiative’s Resilient Coastal Projects Initiative (RCPI). The RCPI develops innovative, nature-based solutions that protect natural resources, public infrastructure, and other community assets.


As a member of the Cities Initiative, Mayor Holzheimer Gail will work collaboratively with member mayors across the basin in the United States and Canada to: support ecosystem and source water protection; ensure that every resident has access to clean, safe, and affordable water; better prepare communities for the impacts of climate change; and, set the path for the basin’s economic transformation into a world-leading blue-green economic corridor.

The City of Euclid, located along the picturesque shores of Lake Erie, is a vibrant and diverse community known for its rich history and welcoming atmosphere. Founded in 1809, Euclid has grown into a city that seamlessly blends suburban tranquility with urban convenience.


With a population of approximately 50,000 residents, Euclid boasts a strong sense of community where neighbors know each other and local events, such as the annual Memorial Day Parade and Summer Concert Series, bring people together in celebration.

Euclid is home to a variety of parks and recreational facilities, making it an ideal place for outdoor enthusiasts. Euclid Creek Reservation offers miles of scenic trails, picnic areas, and opportunities for wildlife observation. Residents and visitors can enjoy the lakefront via Sims Park which features a beach, fishing pier, and waterside multi-purpose trail, providing ample opportunities for outdoor activities.


The city is also actively engaged in economic revitalization efforts, attracting new businesses and fostering a thriving environment for local entrepreneurs. With its strategic location near Cleveland, Euclid offers easy access to major highways and public transportation, making it a convenient place to live, work, and play.
