On August 7th, Euclid proudly celebrated the opening of the third phase of its award-winning Waterfront Improvements Project: Senator Kenny Yuko Park. The occasion was marked with a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by over 100 community members, local officials, statehouse employees, retired senators and the guest of honor- Senator Kenny Yuko and his family.
This lush, green space, located at 24701 Lake Shore Blvd., stands as a testament to the tireless dedication and unwavering commitment of Senator Yuko to his community. Over his decades-long career in public service, Senator Yuko, a Euclid native, has been an impassioned advocate for the residents of Euclid. The dedication of this new park to Senator Yuko serves as a thank-you for his incredible contributions to both the Euclid Waterfront Improvements Project, and the community as a whole.
The ceremony was filled with heartfelt speeches, joyous applause, and a palpable sense of community spirit. Senator Yuko, visibly moved by the occasion, expressed his immense pride and gratitude. “So many of you have known me for so long and you know I’m never at a loss for words, but today, holy cow,” Yuko said.
Boasting lush greenery and a variety of native plants, it offers a serene atmosphere perfect for relaxation and recreation. The park features a new multipurpose trail that connects Lakeshore Blvd. to the existing lakefront trail and Sims Park, providing stunning views of Lake Erie along the way. This trail is expected to become a favorite for walkers, joggers, and cyclists, enhancing the city's commitment to promoting a healthy, active lifestyle.
Looking ahead, the park will also be home to the highly anticipated Beach House. This future development will include a bar/lounge, a restaurant, public restrooms, an outdoor terrace, paddle craft rental and storage areas, and trail maintenance facilities. These amenities will not only enhance the visitor experience but also serve as a vibrant community hub where people can gather, relax, and enjoy the beautiful surroundings.
“This is my hope,” Yuko explained about his namesake park, “that we respect this park, we respect what this park means, what it stands for. It stands for being kind, for being respectful, treating people like you want to be treated, and when you do that good things happen.”
The grand opening of Senator Kenny Yuko Park marks the first new park in Euclid in decades, a milestone that reflects the city's ongoing commitment to enhancing public spaces and improving the quality of life for its residents.
