Euclid Art Association Honors Late President with Art Donation

October 22, 2024

The Euclid Art Association has donated a cherished piece of artwork created by former president Lee Peters to the Euclid City Hall.

In a heartfelt gesture, the Euclid Art Association has donated a cherished piece of artwork created by former president Lee Peters to the Euclid City Hall. This donation took place during the Association's annual City Hall Art Exchange, an event that allows local artists to showcase their work while city employees select pieces to adorn their offices and public spaces.

Lee Peters, who passed away in May of 2023, was a beloved and colorful figure in the community, often likened to "Santa Claus meets AI" for his innovative use of technology to bring imaginative ideas to life. Peters had served as the association's president since 2009, and his leadership left a lasting impact on the Euclid art community.

Peters' involvement with the Euclid Art Association began in the 1980s, inspired by his mother, Florence, who was an officer at the time. His passion for photography provided him a creative outlet within the association, eventually leading him to succeed Dorothy Morton as president. His legacy continues under the new leadership of Rozenia Cunningham.

Known for his engaging presence at board meetings and monthly gatherings, Peters was a proponent of blending tradition with modern technology. He often shared digital art and historical anecdotes, and he cherished the camaraderie of post-meeting lunches and pastries. His jovial spirit was particularly evident at the annual holiday party, where he delighted attendees with his rendition of “‘Twas the Night Before Christmas.”

The donated piece of art features a stylized photo of Euclid City Halls domed rotunda. The original photo was said to have been taken by Peters from the top of a fire truck ladder.

Paintings and photography from Euclid Art Association members can be viewed in the public areas of City Hall throughout the year. The Euclid Art Association’s next monthly meeting is Monday, November 4th, at 7:00p.m. in the Fellowship Hall of East Shore United Methodist Church, 23002 Lakeshore Blvd., in Euclid. All are welcome to attend.
