Atlas Lakeshore Cinema Gets a Facelift Thanks to Storefront Renovation Program

The cinema's exterior was upgraded with new signage, new lighting and fresh paint.

Atlas Lakeshore Cinema, (22624 Lakeshore Blvd) has recently undergone a major renovation, thanks to their participation in the city's Storefront Renovation Program. The program aims to revitalize the city's commercial districts by providing financial assistance to businesses for exterior improvements. Lakeshore Cinema took full advantage of the program, and the results are stunning.

The theater's exterior has been transformed with new paint, signage in the form of a new marquee, and newly retrofitted LED lighting. The once-dated facade now boasts an updated look that is sure to attract the attention of moviegoers. The new marquee is particularly eye-catching, especially at night, with its bright colors and LED lights. Updates were made with special attention to preserving the original art-deco design components that make the building’s exterior unique.

The theater also received a makeover inside with the help of some City ARPA dollars. The reception area and the front of theaters 1, 2, and 3 have been updated with new paint and some much-needed new flooring to replace older areas of carpet. The total cost of the renovations both inside and out was roughly $136,000, an investment well worth the preservation of the 74 year-old-theater, which originally opened in 1949 with one screen and 1,600 seats.

The improvements have not gone unnoticed by Lakeshore Cinema's patrons. "The updates at Lakeshore Theater are being very well received by our customers,” said the Cinema’s Vice President Gabriel Saluan.

The City of Euclid’s Storefront Renovation Program (SRP) provides assistance to commercial-retail building owners and tenants in the form of a financial rebate. Designed to protect economic vitality, encourage commerce, and strengthen Euclid’s commercial fabric, the program incentivizes exterior façade rehabilitation

"The Storefront Renovation Program is a great way to encourage businesses to invest in their properties and improve the overall look of our city," said Mayor Kirsten Holzheimer Gail. "Lakeshore Cinema is a prime example of how the program can help to revitalize our commercial districts and attract new customers."

Lakeshore Cinema's renovation is just one example of the program's success. Several other businesses in the city have also taken advantage of the program and made improvements to their properties. The result is a more vibrant and attractive city.

For Lakeshore Cinema, the renovation has been a much-needed boost. The theater had been struggling to rebuild their customer base after a devastating COVID-19 closure. The improvements have not only made the theater more attractive to customers, but have also improved the overall movie-going experience.

“It’s been very hard and challenging to get our customers back after COVID,” Saluan continued, “but thanks to Mayor Gail and (Economic Development Manager) Callie Cripps, we were able to do some upgrades and refresh the location. Hopefully, the word will spread and we will have an increase in business.”

Atlas Cinemas Lakeshore 7 offers seven theaters with digital movie projectors and an XXDXP 60+ foot digital widescreen, custom digital sound, and stadium seating. The theater is open seven days a week with a variety of movies for both children and adults. The theater can also be rented for birthday parties, private screenings and special events. “We’ve also added also have Independent Films,” Salun explained, “where local filmakers can show their individual films on the big screen at Lakeshore.”
