Job Title: Assistant Service Director
Department: Public Service
Status: A. Unclassified B. Exempt - FLSA
Job Summary: Responsible for assisting the Public Service Director in administration and supervision of the Public Service Departments.
Job Duties:
- Assist in oversight of the operation of the Public Service Department, including managing staff in an efficient manner.
- Assist in handling resident and Council concerns in a timely manner.
- Review Department procedures and update as needed.
- Assist in handling and implementing city, state, county and federal projects.
- Assist in preparing the Department's annual budget for review by Public Service Director and by Council.
- Monitoring department budgets, approving invoices, ordering needed supplies and consulting with contractors for needed services.
- Attend City Council and other community meetings to present legislation, budgets, activity reports, and plans for future projects.
- Observe and evaluate work performance of all Department personnel; progressive discipline, assist in hiring.
- Ensure appropriate licensing and certifications are compliant with all regulatory agencies.
- This position requires participation in city emergency call out situations, including after hours, weekends and holidays.
- Serve as the Public Service Director in the Director’s absence.
- Perform other related duties as required.

Work Environment: Light work (exerting up to 20 lbs of force occasionally); indoor/outdoor. Occasional exposure to below 32 degree F temperatures. Physical activity: climbing, balancing, stooping kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting and feeling.
Requirements: High School Graduate or holder of GED certificate. Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in a related field or experience and training that provides the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to perform the job duties. Valid driver's license. A minimum of 5 years of relevant management experience in the public sector.
Preference Applicant who has experience with managing staff under one or more collective bargaining agreements. Any certifications in one or more of the following fields: Traffic Signalization, Building Maintenance, Pesticide Application, Collection System Operation, Stormwater Regulations and Inspection, Fleet Management, Arborist, Collection System Inspection, Construction Inspection, GIS, Registered Sanitarian, CDL, Waste Water Operation.
Grade 3, Pay Rate: $80,912.00, Monday-Friday, First Shift
