Mayor Kirsten Holzheimer Gail is committed to ensuring the safety of both residents and police officers in our community. Events like the one that took place today on Fox Ave, illustrate the importance of taking a proactive approach to maintaining a safe environment for all.
Thanks to the hard work of the Euclid Police Department, supporting local Police Departments and the cooperation of residents in the area of the scene, all suspects involved in this afternoon’s incident have been apprehended and brought into custody.
"One Euclid Police Officer and one 16-year-old boy were injured today, that's never the outcome we're hoping for," said Mayor Holzheimer Gail. "Thankfully, the injuries are not life threatening, but without the skilled response of the officers at the scene, this could have ended a lot differently for both of them. I'm proud of our officers for using all the tools in their power to keep themselves, the parties involved, and the surrounding neighborhood safe."
Mayor Gail and Police Chief Scott Meyer, with the support of Euclid City Council, have implemented several initiatives to ensure that police officers are well-equipped and well-trained to handle any situation that may arise. These initiatives include Euclid’s gun interdiction details, special attention details, increased staffing, innovative training programs like jiu-jitsu training, equipment upgrades such as body-worn cameras, vehicle upgrades, and regular check-ins between the Mayor and our front-line officers to assess their status and provide support when needed.
In addition, the Mayor has worked closely with the EPD, community leaders and residents to foster positive relationships between law enforcement and the community. This has included our highly attended PAL programs, citizens police academy, community policing initiatives, and increased transparency and accountability measures to build trust and promote mutual respect.
Mayor Gail remains committed to ensuring that residents and first responders alike feel safe and supported in our community. “Safety remains our top priority” she said, “and we will continue working every day to ensure Euclid remains a safe and vibrant community where all can be proud to live, work and visit.”
