**We needed to go back to the areas we collected while there was snow still on the ground after 1/8/25. While we were collecting these areas, we were only collecting the large piles that we could see. This allowed us to continue collecting at a time we normally would not. Now that the snow has melted, we can see the leaves that were under the snow and have returned to finish them up. Once these sections have been added to the have been completed section below, we will not be returning.

10/21/24:

We currently have one leaf truck out in sections training. This leaf truck is working its way through the city picking up the scattered piles. There will not be an update to Leaf Collection Central until the leaf trucks and crews become trackable.

Please start to move all of your leaves out to the tree lawn for collection. The earlier you can get all of your leaves to the curb the better it is for the entire leaf season program. Please do not wait until the end of the season to rake out your yard. If everyone waits until the end of the season leaf collection will fall behind.

A note from Streets Manager Tom Bildstein:

It’s everyone’s favorite season: leaf season! Leaf collection will begin this year on or about 10/21/24. This season we will be collecting leaves much like we have in years past. Leaf collection crews will begin the collection of leaves (only leaves) and move section to section (29 total) until they reach the end of the city. Once this round has been completed the crews will start the city all over again. No special request for leaf collection is necessary. You do not need to call and request service. We stop at every address multiple times during leaf season.
We will continue to collect leaves into December. Leaf collection is NOT on garbage day. You do not need to worry if your garbage was collected but your leaf piles remain. Our hard-working crews will make sure your pile is taken care of. There are several streets in our beautiful city that have active construction projects. Please do not worry, we plan on collecting leaves on these streets as we normally do. We will take care of planning around the active construction areas. Please put your leaves out as you would normally would on these streets. You do not have to wait until the end of the season to place your leaves on the curb. It’s easier for our crews to pick up your leaves throughout the season rather than to wait until the last round when snow may play a factor in pickup. The same equipment that is used to collect leaves is used to remove snow so anything you can do as residents to help this process go faster will only help us all in the long run.
There are a few things that residents can do to help our crews. Leaf piles should be placed as close to the curb as possible, but not in the street. The collection tubes are set up to collect leaves from the tree lawn near the curb so the closer you get them to the curb without them being in the street the better. We ask you not to place your leaves in the street is because they can clog catch basins, cause flooding and it is more difficult for our equipment to collect them. Also, your neighbors don’t appreciate when the snowplows push them in their yard when the snow finally hits. We can’t see leaf piles under the snow. Please refrain from putting sticks, brush, or grass in your leaf pile. The recycling facility will not take this debris, and they cause damage to our equipment. If the equipment is damaged due to this debris it will slow down the collection process as repairs are made.
If at all possible, please avoid putting leaves under short trees and wrapping them around trees. Keep fire hydrants clear of leaves for emergency reasons. Please be considerate of your neighbors. I know it’s hard to tell when the leaf trucks are coming (not everyone can check the website for updates…click LEAF COLLECTION CENTRAL it is updated daily) but piles can be missed and passed up because equipment is unable to get into the area and pick them up when cars are parked in front of them. Please refrain from using your leaf blowers while our crews are working on your property. Blowing leaves and other debris at the workers while they are working can cause injury.

Frequently asked Questions

1. Why do you only pick one side of the road and not collect the other at the same time?

While working a section we work from the outside of a section first. Every section has an outside and an inside. The outside of the section most often gets collected first. After collection of the outside is complete, we start working the inside of the section. This is a little more complicated as it requires more turns. When we do this, we make right hand turns. We collect leaves down one side of the street and at the end of the block we make another right. When it is the first street, we have collected we drive past the area that we have already collected and down to the next block. This is where we make a right-hand turn and collect the inside of the next street down. When we come to the end of the road, we make another right to collect the other side of the street we have just collected. This continues until the section has been completed. We only make right hand turns because our tube for collecting leaves is on the right-hand side of the trailer and this keeps our equipment moving with the flow of traffic for safety.

2. Why has the rest of the section been collected but not my Dead-end Street?

Dead ends are collected at different times then the rest of the section. These streets require special vehicles that can access the tight spaces we have (41 dead ends on the southside and 64 on the north side). Our Vac trucks collect leaves on dead ends. They work on these areas and tight roads we cannot fit our regular trailer mounted equipment down.

3. Why did they make two passes on my street?

Many yards have leaf piles that were placed or have fallen or blown into the street. Our equipment cannot collect both the street and the tree lawn efficiently at the same time requiring us to make two passes. If leaves are placed on the tree lawn this would not be an issue and we could eliminate this step and improve our collection times.

4. Where have you been and when will my leaves be collected?

We update our website nightly with where crews have stopped working for the day and the direction we are headed once the collection resumes. Check leaf collection central at cityofeuclid.com

5. What are my other options? Can I bag my leaves, or could I mulch them and leave them on my yard?

It’s always an option to bag and dispose of your leaves in the garbage tote. It is also an option to mulch the leaves in place on your lawn allowing the nutrients to be absorbed back into the yard.

No special request for leaf collection is necessary. We stop at every address multiple times per season.
