Welcome December! This month we'd like to introduce you to the employees at the Streets and Sewers Departments. Another department that is passionate about their work, works well together, and across Departments within the city to get things done. Public Service Director Dan Knecht writes: The Streets and Sewers Department is responsible for the maintenance and repair of all city owned roads and the sewage collection system. The department is made up of 21 light equipment operators, special equipment operators and working foreman. There are 2 managers, Tom "Bean" Bildstein oversees the streets work and Chris Croson oversees the sewer work. Work performed in the department varies per season. Fall and winter seasons all personnel are involved in leaf pickup and snow removal. Personnel that work in the collection system coordinate with water reclamation department personnel to complete various maintenance and repair tasks. Other work that is completed by sewer workers includes street sweeping, catch basin repair and replacement, lateral and mainline sewer maintenance, repair, replacement of 262 miles of sewers. Streets workers will complete tasks such as repair of 143 lane miles of roads, curb replacement, grass mowing in right of ways, crack sealing and lane markings.
