Job Title:             Head Summer Camp Counselor

Department:       Recreation Department

Status:                 A. Classified. B. Non-Exempt

Seasonal full-time Mon-Friday 8am-4pm from June 3rd to August 2nd.

As a Head Summer Camp Counselor, you’ll play an important role in providing structure and support to staff, as well as providing a fun, engaging and safe environment for our campers. You will lead fellow counselors and children between 4 and 12 years of age during weekly themed camps throughout the summer. As well as being sub-administrator for the program coordinator in the field.

Head Counselors will also greatly contribute to the City of Euclid and Euclid Recreation Department’s ongoing efforts to grow happy, healthy, and responsible children.

A typical day for Head Summer Camp Counselor could include:

• Keeping counselors on their tasks for the day
• Helping parents and children through the drop-off/sign-in process
• Supporting and helping counselors lead children through fun and exciting camp activities
• Encouraging campers and facilitate counselors to participate in games and activities
• Teach campers good behaviors by communicating and leading by example

Duties & Responsibilities

• Continually keep the counselors actively engaged with the campers, providing support whenever needed, leading by example
• Follow and execute activities according to pre-designed daily lesson plans
• Lead a group of campers ages 4–12 with a fun, positive and outgoing attitude
• Act as a role model to all children attending camp as well as counselors
• Interact with children, parents/guardians and co-workers in a professional manner at all times
• Understand and adhere to Standard Operating Procedures for camp
• Immediately report suspicious or inappropriate behaviors or abuse relating to youth

Qualifications

•       High School Diploma or GED; or must be actively working towards a High School diploma

•       One year working in a camp environment or coaching/teaching children preferred

Other Requirements

At Euclid Recreation, the safety of our youth is a top priority. Applicants must complete all state or federal requirements prior to their first day of directly working with children. Requirements may include but are not limited to fingerprints taken by a local police department for a background check.
