Zoning Division

Zoning is a function of the Planning and Development Department. The purpose of zoning is to protect the health and welfare of residents and to allow for the orderly growth of the City through the Zoning Code. These responsibilities include issuing zoning permits and performing field inspections for zoning compliance.

The Zoning Division, managed by the Zoning Commissioner, assists with the Department’s managing of the City’s Master Plan and has primary responsibility for maintaining, updating, and interpreting the City’s Zoning Code, and official zoning map. The Commissioner manages the City’s Land Bank Program and assists the Department with a variety of special planning studies on behalf of the City including support for the Storefront Renovation Program, as well as managing historic preservation and landmark projects. Additionally, the Division provides staff support to the Planning and Zoning Commission and the Architectural Review Board. The Planning and Zoning Commission serves as the community advisory committee for the use and sale of the City’s inventory of available properties through our Land Bank Program.
