The City of Euclid seeks an Urban Forester to join its Planning and Development Team.

Job Title:      Urban Forester

Department: Planning and Development

Status:           A. Classified B. Exempt  

 

Job Summary:  The Urban Forester is responsible for the planning, coordination, implementation, and tracking of the Urban Forestry Division of the Department of Planning and Development. The Urban Forestry Division provides public and private-sector project support, advancing the City of Euclid's urban forestry plans and goals. This position will assist in setting goals and objectives, supervising employees and contracts, establishing timelines and budgets, collaborating with partners, coordinating activities across teams, and tracking progress and results. The Urban Forester leads all urban forestry projects and oversees the successful completion of all City tree planting projects and ongoing maintenance, including pruning and removal. The Urban Forester also provides public education to assist residents with understanding the importance of urban forestry and acts as a liaison to the City’s Shade Tree Commission. 

 

Job Duties:

   

  • Guides the development and leads the implementation of the City’s urban forestry management plan
  • Oversees periodic tree canopy inventories and risk assessments;
  • Prepare project bids and assist the Planning and Development Director with proposals;
  • Supervises and manages division employees and contractors for service;
  • Draft and manage contracts, as needed;
  • Develop a presence in the community by building trust, buy-in, and cooperation with community stakeholders, such as community-based groups, elected officials, and others;
  • Identify potential urban forestry projects, develop project budgets, and make recommendations to the Department Director;
  • Approve tree planting plans and make recommendations for appropriate species and landscape materials;
  • Lead urban forestry projects and oversee the successful completion of all City tree planting projects, including those part of other City projects;
  • Maintain records of tree conditions, including monitoring ongoing maintenance needs and performing maintenance, including pruning and removal, as needed;
  • Serve as primary liaison to the City’s Shade Tree Commission;
  • Present at public meetings, such as the Community Development Block Grant Citizens Advisory Committee, City Council, Shade Tree Commission, and City staff on grant-funded programs as needed;
  • Manage and track all projects and progress, including the creation of ongoing and annual reports, informational material for residents, and other marketing materials;
  • Maintain the City’s Tree City USA status, including submitting all required paperwork and proof of qualifications;
  • Assist the Director with department budgeting;
  • Perform all other duties as required.

 

Requirements: 

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Urban Forestry, forestry, horticulture, or related field
  • Minimum five years of directly related experience;
  • Arborists Certification from the International Society of Arboriculture, or the ability to obtain such certification within one year of the date of hire;
  • Tree Risk Assessment and Municipal Specialist qualifications preferred;
  • Professional demeanor, superior written and oral communication skills, ability to interact and work with a variety of audiences, including but not limited to arborists, city officials and staff, urban foresters, volunteers, contractors, residents, and private partners;
  • Valid driver's license with good driving record;
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Products and tree management software;
  • Experience with GIS mapping preferred.

 

Work Environment: Office and outdoor inspections, interviews on construction/planting sites. Sedentary work: exerting negligible force; occasional walking, standing. Physical activity: balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching.                                                    

 

Grade 3: $76,500 - $103,500 annual salary, commensurate with experience

Enjoy an afternoon of family-friendly fun while supporting the businesses that call 200th AND 185th Streets home. There will be music, activities, vendors, food, rocket-car rides, comedy bus tours and more! Save the date and join us on East 185th for a celebration of our local businesses and community partners.
